Hello. My name is Luanne Young, and I am an artist and art teacher. I was born into a family of makers. My parents were always designing, building and inventing. Being surrounded by creative energy has influenced me, both personally and professionally. Much of my inspiration also comes from the amazing art teachers I have had throughout the years.
I am a graduate of the joint Art and Art History Program at The University of Toronto and Sheridan College. Moreover, I completed a Master of Science in Education at Canisius College, including New York State teacher certification. I am also certified by the Ontario College of Teachers. Teaching visual arts is a significant part of my life: it is my passion.
I work mainly with acrylic paint and mixed media on canvas. In the last few years, I have been blending traditional painting with digital work. I draw inspiration from many places, including the human body and brain, nature, personal health, and life experience. I like to layer colour, create texture, and detail to illuminate the beauty and enigma of the brain and body. Several years ago, I suffered a traumatic injury which has greatly influenced my life and artwork. Although the journey has not been an easy one, I am grateful for the ability to create artwork and to continue to teach. Art has and will always be an outlet and mode of expressing my deepest emotions, struggles and triumphs.
